Knitting Pattern - girl Intarsia Sweater

KNITTING PATTERN – GIRL INTARSIA KNITTED SWEATER

SWATCH

Make swatch of 40 stitches and 36 rows

Block swatch with steam. Leave the swatch flat for at least half a day.

Measure swatch – Width = 6 st per inch, Length = 9 rows per inch

FRONT SIDE

HIPS:

29” in all.

15” for front side of sweater.

Gauge is 6 st per inch. 15*6= 90 st.

Cast on 90 st.

BORDER:

2 inches’ border was needed.

2 knit 1 purl for 18 rows.

Guage is 9 rows per inch.

WAIST:

Waist has to be 14 inches (14” * 6 st = 84 st)

Hips to Waist length has to be 9 inches (9” * 9rows = 81 rows). Knit plain for 81 rows to reach the waist.

Decrease 6 stitches in all from hips to waist.

CHEST:

Chest has to be same size as hips, i.e., 15 inches

Guage is 90 st (15 “ * 6 st)

Increase 6 st from waist to hips.

Waist to chest length has to be 6 inches

Guage is 54 rows ( 6 “ * 9 rows). Total rows knitted is 81 (hips to waist) +54 (waist to chest) = 135

INTARSIA: The diamond shape pattern used here is made of 9 st. For simplicity - A is main colour, B is colour 2, K is knit. The whole pattern is knit only.

ROW 1: 4K A, 1K B, 4K A (this makes 9 st)

ROW 2: 3K A, 3K B, 3K A

ROW 3: 2K A, 5K B, 2K A

ROW 4: 1K A, 3K B, IK A, 3K B, IK A

ROW 5: 1K A, 3K B, IK A, 3K B, IK A

ROW 6: 2K A, 5K B, 2K A

ROW 7: 3K A, 3K B, 3K A

ROW 8: 4K A, 1K B, 4K A

ARMHOLE AND NECK

Cast off 5 st for armhole on both sides.

Knit each shoulder separately.

Hold 8 st on another yarn in the centre for neck band.

Decrease 2 st on both sides of neck every second row for neck shaping.

Decrease 5 more st for arm hole shaping

SHOULDER:

Should have 15 st for each shoulder after decreasing for neck and arm hole.

Arm hole to shoulder is 8 inches. Guage is 8 “ * 9 rows = Knit 72 rows from arm hole cast off.

Front piece will have a total of 209 rows. (81 (hips to waist) +54 (waist to chest) + 72 (arm hole to shoulder) =207)

 

BLOCK the piece with steam.

 

BACK SIDE

Back piece is exactly same as front piece. These are the only differences.

  1. No intarsia on back side.

  2. Hold 15 stitches in the center for neck at row number 185

  3. Shoulder should have 15 stitches

  4. Knit 207 rows in all

 

NECK

Pick the stitches held in the centre.

Skip every 4th stitch and knit garter stitch

Knit 18 rows

 

Join the shoulders and neck

 

SLEEVE

Sleeve length has to be 20 inches. Guage 20“ * 9 rows = 180 rows

Pick stitches from arm skipping all the knots. Decrease 4 st at 10th, 14th, 18th, 22nd rows.

Decrease 2 st every 10th row till you have 54 st.

Wrist has to be 9 inches. Guage is 9” * 6 st = 54

 

Hide tails and join the ends.
